Frosty

Frosty the Snowman is a classic Christmas icon for Columbus Light & Water. Each year during the month of December, he makes his rounds to Stokes-Beard Elementary, Fairview Elementary, Annunciation Catholic School, and ends the month at the main office downtown. Frosty brings a much-needed dose of joy and positivity to our community with his whimsical nature reminding people to embrace the magic of the season and spread kindness to others.

Possum Town

The name “Possum Town” was coined in the early 19th century and derives from a man named Spirus Roach who was the manager of a local trading post in Columbus. It is told that his face reminded people of a possum, and therefore Columbus was nicknamed “Possum Town” by its inhabitants. The infamous nickname lost its popularity until Columbus native Berkley Hudson authored a book entitled O.N Pruitt’s Possum Town in 2021. Since then, “Possum Town” has been brought to light again and incorporated into the history of our city.
